Prof. Pujun Wang, the academic leader of our team, together with Prof. Frank Mattern from Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, and geothermal geoscientist Cécile Massiot from the New Zealand Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences, co-convened and co-hosted the 21st International Sedimentology Congress session T2-2 “Interactions between basement, volcanism, and sedimentary cover” from 23 to 25 August 2022. between basement, volcanism, and sedimentary cover”.
The Congress was held in Beijing from 22 to 26 August 2022, focusing on the theme “A New Journey in Sedimentology: From the Pacific to the Himalaya”, with the aim of exchanging new advances in sedimentology, discussing frontier scientific issues in sedimentology, and promoting theoretical and technological innovations in sedimentology. The session T2-2 received 30 oral presentations and 28 posters, which is well above the average.
The session T2-2 was divided into two days of online oral presentations on 24 August and 25 August. A total of 27 Chinese and foreign scholars participated in the online oral presentation sessions. During the conference, international scholars from Oman, Germany, New Zealand, Russia and other countries actively exchanged and discussed with each other. Fourteen oral presentations were given by our team, including Youfeng Gao, Weihua Bian, Hanfei Wang and Yanquan Wang. Among them, Wang Hanfei and Wang Yanquan were even invited to present at the conference. The poster session was divided into two days, August 25 and August 26, with a total of 25 Chinese and foreign scholars participating in the online poster session.
The virtual field trip VFT05: The Mesozoic-Cenozoic volcano-siliciclastic successions and oil shale sedimentary sequence of the Songliao Basin and Changbai Mountain areas, NE China was held on 27 August led by Professor Pujun Wang, together with Youfeng Gao, Frank Mattern, Jian Yi, Jianguang Zhang, Xuejiao Qu and other international scholars from all over Oman, Germany and New Zealand. Our team was responsible for the construction and leading of the field route cloud expedition. During the meeting, scholars from many countries expressed their interest in the Changbai Mountain and Songliao Basin research.
By participating in this conference and hosting the session T2-2, our team has enhanced our contacts with scholars from various countries and further promoted international collaborative research.
